CACHORA – CHOQUEQUIRAO – CACHORA
The most direct route to visit the famous and beautiful but remote archaeological site of CHOQUEQUIRAO , entering through the village of Cachora. A hike for the really good hikers! Or you go on horseback (optional).
1st Day: LIMA – HOTEL.
Arrival to the city of Lima. Transfer from the airport to the Hotel. Contact with the Guide.
2nd Day: LIMA – CUSCO – CITY TOURS 4 NEARBY RUINS.
Breakfast in the hotel. Flight to Cusco, Transfer to Hotel. In the afternoon city tour Visiting to the most attractive places in the city and naturally the four most important nearby ruins: Qenqo, one of the finest examples of a rock artfully carved on site showing complex patterns of steps, seats, geometric relief and a puma design. Puca Pukara, situated on a hill with superb views over the surrounding countryside Puca Pucara was more likely a tambo. Tambomachay, commonly referred to as the ‘Baños del Inca’ or Inca baths, Tambomachay was a site for ritual bathing and Sacsayhuaman, Inca fortress, which visitors cannot fail to be impressed by the beauty and monumental scale of this important Inca construction. Return to the hotel and lodgment.
3rd Day: CUSCO – CACHORA – CHIQUISKA
We will leave Cusco (3350m/10991f) approximately at 5:30 am. First, we will head for the village Cachora (2850m/9350f) to meet our horsemen and the mules that will carry all the camping equipment during the expedition. Thereafter, we will continue our journey towards the pass of Capuliyoc (2800m/9186f). The trek offers a beautiful view of the mythical mountain Padreyoc, of the deep canyon and of the river Apurímac, meaning “speaking river”. Thereupon, we will descend towards the canyon’s interior named Chiquisca (1930m/6332f), where we will spend the night.
Climate: warm; Hiking time: 7 hours
4th Day: CHISQUISKA – CHOQUEQUIRAO.
From the camp, after crossing the bridge, you have to climb all your way to the ruins, the first 3 hours being very steep! But the views are spectacular! Deep down is the canyon and there can be condors around. You enter the ruins late in the afternoon.
5th Day: CHOQUEQUIRAO.
Take your time to visit the place! Choquequirao was an important Inca site! It is the remotest of the major sites on a ridge spur amongst 1800m above the Apurimac river.
It is suggested to have been the place where the last Inca Tupac Amaru was raised among Inca priestesses (Gary Ziegler). Another suggestion is that it was built as a’ royal estate’ for Topa Inca, son of Pachacutec (Vincent Lee).
6th Day: CHOQUEQUIRAO – CHIQUISKA.
Walk into the Apurimac valley, you can have a caña (alcoholic drink made of sugarcane) in Santa Rosa, cross the Apurimac river. You can have a swim here… Camp here or 1 hour up in Chiquiska.
7th Day: CHIQUISKA – CACHORA – CUSCO-
It takes about 6-7 hours to reach the village of Cachora and there is another pass to cross, so a lot of climbing to do… Be prepared: there is no water in about 4-5 hours!!!!! After the last climb your transport is waiting for you to bring you back to Cusco.
8th Day: CUSCO – AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO.
Breakfast. Transfer to Ollantaytambo in private service to Ollanta train station followed by a beautiful landscape by train to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival transfer by public bus aMachu Picchu. Guided tour of the most important archaeological site in South America. Afternoon transfer by bus to Aguas Calientes and return to Cusco. Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo by train and Ollantaytambo Cusco in private service. Hotel.
9th Day: CUSCO – LIMA.
Breakfast in the hotel. Flight to Lima, Transfer to Hotel. In the early afternoon we will visit the museum of the gold. End the services.
